1. Who we are

Toolery (toolery.dev) is a free collection of online developer and network tools, operated as a personal project. This page explains, in plain language, what data is and is not collected when you use the site, and what your choices are.

2. The short version

  • No account is required to use any tool.
  • Most tools run entirely in your browser — nothing you paste leaves your device.
  • A small number of network tools send the host or domain you query to our server so the lookup can be performed there.
  • Standard server logs record technical request data (IP, URL, time) for security and abuse prevention.
  • The site itself sets no tracking cookies. Once advertising is enabled, third-party advertising partners may set cookies.
  • You can reach us at any time through the Contact page.

3. What runs in your browser vs. on our server

Client-side tools — the Base64 / URL / Hex Encoder, Unix Time Converter, JWT Decoder, Regex Tester, Hash Generator, JSON Formatter, Text Diff, CSV Viewer and Email Header Analyzer — execute entirely in your web browser. The text you paste is never transmitted to or stored on our server.

Network tools — the Open Port Checker, DNS Propagation Checker and DNS & Email Lookup — perform their checks from our server. To do so, the query input you provide (a hostname, IP address or domain) is sent to our server, which performs the requested DNS or TCP check and returns the result. We do not associate queries with you personally; they appear in our normal access logs as part of standard request data, but we do not maintain a permanent database of public-tool queries.

4. Information we collect automatically (server logs)

Like virtually every website, our web server records technical information about each request, including:

  • your IP address (from the CF-Connecting-IP header sent by our CDN, Cloudflare);
  • the URL you requested and the HTTP method, status and response size;
  • your browser user-agent string and Referer header (if any);
  • the approximate country derived by Cloudflare from your IP.

These logs are used to operate, secure and improve the site — for example, to investigate abuse, debug errors and produce aggregate visitor statistics. They are retained for a limited period and then deleted or rolled over.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

The public side of Toolery (everything reachable without logging in) sets no cookies of its own. The administrative area, which is not available to the public, uses a single session cookie strictly required for authentication.

Third-party advertising. We are in the process of enrolling in Google AdSense to display advertising on the site. Once active, Google and its partners may set cookies and use device identifiers to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads where permitted by law. You can review and control this at adssettings.google.com and opt out of personalised advertising. Google's use of advertising cookies is described in their advertising-cookies policy.

6. Third-party services we use

  • Cloudflare — provides our CDN, TLS termination, and DDoS / bot protection. All traffic to the site passes through Cloudflare; their data handling is governed by Cloudflare's own privacy policy.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — the Contact form uses Turnstile to distinguish humans from automated bots. Turnstile collects passive browser signals to make this determination; it does not require completing visible puzzles.
  • Google AdSense — once enabled, used to serve advertising (see above).
  • Resend — used to deliver email originating from the site (for example, Contact-form messages) to its destination inbox.
  • AbuseIPDB — IP addresses involved in clearly abusive activity (for example, brute-force login attempts or automated scanners) may be reported to AbuseIPDB, an industry-standard threat-intelligence database, to help protect the wider internet.

7. The Contact form

If you choose to send a message through the Contact page, the name, email address and message you submit are transmitted via Resend to our private inbox so that we can read and reply. Submissions are kept as part of normal email correspondence and used solely to respond to your message; they are not added to any marketing list. The submitting IP address and browser user-agent are recorded with the message for abuse investigation.

8. Children

Toolery is intended for use by developers and other technically-minded adults. It is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under that age.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under data-protection law — such as GDPR (EU / UK) or the CCPA (California) — including the right to access, correct or delete data we hold about you, to object to certain processing, or to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. You can exercise any of these rights by contacting us through the Contact page. Because we do not maintain accounts or a customer database, the data we hold about most visitors is limited to server-log records keyed to an IP address.

10. Changes to this policy

If we materially change how this site handles data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top. We recommend checking back occasionally.

11. Contact

Questions about this policy, or about data we may hold about you, are welcome via the Contact page.
